This MCLE trains and guides pro bono and legal aid attorneys on using the “Louisiana Life Planning Application.” Attorneys will gain an understanding of the law and logic that guides client interviews. The course will include multiple hypotheticals and review the legal implications of clients' estate planning decisions. The agenda and speaker bios are below.

12:45 Using the Will Generator, Amanda Brown
(Professionalism credit pending) Gain an understanding of how the life planning application was designed and works. Attendees will see the underlying logic that provides the foundation for the life planning application. The session will include demonstrations of hypothetical client scenarios, and training on points at which client counseling and legal advice is recommended. Participants will also be given general instructions on how pro bono events will operate with the application.

SPEAKER BIOS
Amanda Brown is the founder and executive director of Lagniappe Law Lab and co-chair Louisiana's Access to Justice Commission's technology subcommittee. She is a member of the Legal Service Corporation's Emerging Leaders Council. She is also active in the American Bar Association, serving as the Director of the Young Lawyer Division's Disaster Legal Services Program, and is a member of the ABA Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services. Before starting Lagniappe Law Lab in 2019, Amanda was a legal technology consultant for the Louisiana Bar Foundation on its statewide triage portal, the Louisiana Civil Legal Navigator. Before that, she served as the inaugural Microsoft NextGen Fellow for the American Bar Association's Center for Innovation and was a Southeast Louisiana Legal Services disaster recovery attorney. She is a proud ABA LTRC Woman of Legal Tech and a 2022 Fastcase 50 honoree.

Joseph R. Ballard graduated from Tulane Law School in 1983. He has practiced law in New Orleans, Alexandria, and Baton Rouge. He is currently a Staff Attorney at The Pro Bono Project in New Orleans, where he handles a variety of civil matters for low-income clients, including Divorces, Wills, Powers of Attorney, Successions, Tutorships, and Intra-Family Adoptions.
