Louisiana Appleseed volunteers created free cards with information on recent changes in the law that impact homestead exemptions--new laws in Louisiana that may remove Homestead Exemption quickly thereby significantly increasing residents' property taxes. The informational card provides information on how homeowners who have acquired property through a death in the family may be impacted by recent changes in the homestead exemption law. Both documents contain contact information for legal service agencies in your area should any of your low-income constituents require additional free legal assistance. We have distributed these over 2,000 cards to community leaders across the state to educate homeowners on significant changes in the law.
