JANUARY 17, 20203, NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - On January 19, 2023, Louisiana Appleseed will be hosting its 13th Annual Good Apple Gala, an event that will celebrate the work of community members and pro bono volunteers with whom Louisiana Appleseed has worked in the past year. This year’s gala will honor Benjamin Mahoney as an Appleseed Pro Bono Honoree of the 2023 Good Apple Award.

Pro Bono Honorees have extended themselves above and beyond the typical pro bono commitment to justice. This year's honorees have greatly expanded our network and made significant changes in a particular project.

Louisiana Appleseed was connected with Benjamin Mahoney through the Taproot Foundation, which connects prospective volunteers in a wide array of fields with organizations in need. Appleseed sought assistance with a multi-parish media campaign offering free help with heirs' properties and clear title.

Relying on his expertise in communications and marketing at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, Mr. Mahoney helped attorneys from Appleseed as well as Southeast Louisiana Legal Services turn a complex legal issue into a fresh, easy-to-understand campaign. His knowledge and experience provided Appleseed with invaluable increased capacity.

"Lawyers are notorious for speaking ‘inside baseball,’” said Adrienne Wheeler, Executive Director of Louisiana Appleseed. “Mr. Mahoney’s craft for storytelling helped attorneys to break out of legalese.”

Tickets and sponsorship to the 2023 Good Apple Gala can be purchased online at www.louisianaappleseed.org/2023gala. The Good Apple Gala will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, located at 2 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
