FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASECONTACT: Adrienne Wheeler, 504-910-1767; awheeler@louisianaappleseed.org
Tuesday, February 25, 2025 [New Orleans, LA] - Louisiana Appleseed is excited to announce that at the Building Black Wealth Convening, the Players Coalition awarded Louisiana Appleseed a $100,000 grant to support ongoing efforts to address Heirs’ Property issues and advance the Uniform Partition Act of Heirs Property (UPHPA) in Louisiana.
Heirs’ Property—a leading cause of land loss in Black communities—can leave families vulnerable to forced sales and displacement. This generous grant will allow Appleseed to continue and fortify our efforts to educate, advocate and provide resources that help families secure their property rights, protect generation wealth and prevent forced land loss–particularly in historically underserved communities. “This incredible partnership with the Players Coalition strengthens our mutual goal to ensure heirs' property owners get fair market value for their generational land,” said Adrienne Wheeler, Executive Director of Louisiana Appleseed. “We look forward to continuing this vital work together to create lasting impact for Louisiana's most vulnerable communities.” Through this partnership, Louisiana Appleseed remains committed to providing critical legal resources to low-income families across the state, empowering them to take control of their financial futures.
